Net Play Pushes Marlins To Victory at Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team finished out its weekend with another conference victory, taking down Roanoke, 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 25-14), on the road. With the win, the Marlins improve to 12-7 on the season while improving to 6-2 in conference action.

The offense was on point for the Marlins as the accrued an attack percentage of .215 on the day. Leading the way was Doneisha Hall who nabbed her third-straight double digit kill match, registering 17 on the day. She would be closely followed by Kristina Scott who amassed 12 kills.

The net play was dominant on both sides of the ball as the Marlins tallied 13 blocks on the evening. VWU's two middles in Sydney Collins and Amber Matalus both showed a strong presence, coming away with seven and six block assists, respectively.

Setting duties were almost evenly split in the match with Meghan Wood recording 22 assists and Katie Costin 18.

In the back row, Sarah Brush came away with a team-high 14 digs with Alyssa Taylor right at her heels with 13. Hall had a solid game on defense too, racking up a season-high 10 digs.

Volleyball returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the squad hosts Lynchburg in their final regular season home game of the season.
