Volleyball Comes Back to Beat Randolph on Senior Night

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team jumped back into the win column as the team took down Randolph, 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20). With the victory the Marlins jump to 10-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The WildCats move to 5-12 overall (2-4 ODAC).

Before the match the Marlins honored their two seniors, Doneisha Hall and Kristina Scott, for the dedication and hard work they have put towards the program in their four years here.

After dropping the opening set, the Marlins got their feet back under them taking the next two by a score of 25-16. The fourth stanza started out poorly for VWU as the team found themselves in a 11-2 hole. An 11-serve run with Amber Matalus shifted the momentum back in the home team's favor though and the team pulled out the 3-1 victory.

Matalus matched her solid serving effort with a team-high 13 kills on the evening. She was aided by Scott and Elizabeth Britton who each tallied 10.

At the service line, the Marlins registered seven aces while only allowing two for the opposition. Britton and Sarah Brush each registered two while Alyssa Taylor, Meghan Wood and Matalus each snagged one

Setting duties were split exactly even as both Katie Costin and Wood came away with 22 assists. For the freshman, Costin, it was a career high.

Volleyball will return to action at  7 p.m. on Wednesday as the team heads to Bridgewater for an ODAC match with the Eagles.
