Matalus and Luttuca Earn ODAC Recognition

FOREST, Va. – Amber Matalus of the Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team and Skyler Lattuca of the Virginia Wesleyan University men's cross country team both received weekly honors from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) for their performances during the week ending on Sept. 23, 2018.

Matalus had a tremendous week for the Marlins, helping the program defeat No. 20 Christopher Newport University for the first time ever as well as picking up a key in-conference victory over Shenandoah. In the week's first match against nationally-ranked CNU, the junior led the team with 16 kills, matching a career-high. She then one upped that by registering 17 kills against Shenandoah on Saturday morning. Matalus hit an astounding .476 (33-of-61) on the week, boosting her conference-leading season average to .388.

Lattuca earned his second-straight ODAC Runner of the Week accolade as he was the Marlins top performer at the Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah Saturday morning. In his first collegiate 8K, the first year took third in a field of 53 runners, posting a time of 26:45.7.

Both teams return to action this week starting with volleyball at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday as the squad hosts Southern Virginia. Men's cross country will compete at the Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday hosted by Salisbury University.
