Marlins Rally past Roanoke in Five
SALEM, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball needed five sets on Saturday, rallying past Roanoke College 20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 17-15 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Marlins took advantage of 64 kills, five service aces, and an impressive 18 blocks to seal the victory.
Roanoke captured the first set 25-20, looking to take the momentum from an early home lead. VWU rallied with two set victories, but a 25-21 Roanoke win in the fourth evened the match again.
The fifth and final set went back and forth with neither team able to gain much of an advantage. The Marlins led 14-13, but an attack error extended the match. A Roanoke service error immediately gave possession back to VWU, along with match point. The Marlins returned the favor with a service error to make the score 15-all. A block by Doneisha Hall and Amber Matalus, followed by a Hall kill put the match away.
Virginia Wesleyan (8-5/3-1) travels to Christopher Newport Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
