FOREST, Va. – Jayla Harris of the Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 6, 2019.
Just like she has done all year, Harris once again dominated on the offensive side of things as the Marlins came away with two key ODAC victories.
In the week's first game, the Fredericksburg, Va. native filled up the stat sheet as she cashed in 12 points while coming away with four dimes and seven boards. The senior really came alive during the weekend win over Roanoke as she registered 28 points. Harris was lights out from the floor, shooting 56.3% (9-16) from the field as well as a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe. She also contributed five assists, four steals and three boards to help the Marlins improve their conference record to 5-2 on the season.
Harris has been a staple in the Marlin lineup throughout her career and this season has been no exception. The guard's 19.9 points-per-game not only leads the ODAC but is also ranked 33rd in all of Division III.
Harris and the rest of the women's basketball team will return to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday as the team hosts Shenandoah.
