FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team hopped back into the win column as the team dropped Ferrum, 49-33 on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, Virginia Wesleyan improves to 4-4 (2-1 ODAC) while the Panthers fall to 3-4.
Despite a major defensive emphasis most of the game, Ferrum began with two straight three pointers. However, a three from Jayla Harris and a plethora of two pointers from her teammates were able to guide the Marlins to an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers however, continues to fight hard throughout the first half as they were only trailing by four points going into halftime.
After a third quarter in which the Marlins extended their lead to 9, Coach Dunmyer's squad was able to secure the game alongside 4 fourth quarter points from Amanda Gerni and Jaelyn Washington.
Harris continued to impress offensively as she topped ll players with 20 points. Also pitching in was Amanda Gerni, who came away with 10 points.
In the paint, Sabrina Jones had an excellent day as she hauled in a season-high 13 rebounds, including 12 on the defensive glass.
Women's basketball will be returning to Virginia Beach, Va. this coming Wednesday to take on the Bridgewater Eagles (4-2, 1-1 ODAC). The contest is scheduled to tip off at 5:30.PM.
