  • Harris Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

    INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – Jayla Harris of the Virginia Wesleyan University women’s basketball team has been named a 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee. Nominated by Virginia Wesleyan, Harris was then selected as the Woman of the Year representative by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) making her just one of 149 female student-athletes to receive this honor across all three NCAA Divisions.

    ASHLAND, Va. – Six student athletes out of Virginia Wesleyan University have been named to the 2018-19 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-Academic Team for their combined performance both in the classroom and on the playing field. Amber Matalus of volleyball, Jacob Pilarski of baseball, Ann Marie Moffett of women’s soccer, Jayla Harris of women’s basketball, Skyler Lattuca of men’s cross country/track and field and Hanna Hull of softball were all selected by the committee.

  • Liz Hudy named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Virginia Wesleyan

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Wesleyan University has turned to veteran Averett University coach Liz Hudy as its next head women’s basketball coach. The Virginia Beach native will start at VWU on June 1, according to Tina Hill, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Jayla Harris of the Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team has been named a First Team All-State member by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). This is her third time in her career earning All-State honors, but the first time she has been named to the top team (Second Team in 2016-17 and 2017-18).

    ATLANTA, Ga. – Jayla Harris of the Virginia Wesleyan University women’s basketball team has been named to play in the Beyond Sports Division III Women’s Collegiate All-Star Game presented by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She will play in the game which is to be held at 5 p.m. on March 16 at the Cregger Center in Salem, Va.

    SALEM, Va. – The #5 Virginia Wesleyan University women’s basketball team fell to fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon, 72-66, in overtime Friday afternoon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarterfinal. With the result, the Marlins end the year with a record of 14-12.

    FOREST, Va. – Two members of the Virginia Wesleyan University women’s basketball team were named to the All-Conference Teams by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Jayla Harris earned a spot on the First Team and was also named the conference’s Player of the Year. Amanda Gerni was named to the Third Team.

    LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women’s basketball team defeated Randolph, 67-53, Saturday afternoon in the team’s regular season finale. With the win, the Marlins will take a record of 14-11 (11-7 ODAC) into the post season. That is good enough for the fifth seed in the ODAC Championship, meaning the team will take on fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon at 3 p.m. on Friday in the Salem Civic Center.
  • Women's Basketball Falls Just Short at Randolph-Macon

    ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell, 68-62, to Randolph-Macon on the road Tuesday evening. With the result, the Marlins move to 13-11 on the season and go to 10-7 in conference action. Macon improves to 17-7 on the season (12-5 ODAC).

With the victory, the Marlins improve to 13-10 on the year and move to 10-6 in conference action. Ferrum drops to 3-20 on the season (1-15 ODAC).

    FOREST, Va. –Jayla Harris of the women’s basketball team and Coby Cockrell of the men’s indoor track and field team have earned Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) recognition for their performances over the week. Harris was named the Player of the Week while Cockrell was named the Field Athlete of the Week. This is the second weekly ODAC award each individual has received.

The game was originally scheduled for a 2 p.m. start but has been pushed forward two hours due to impending snow coming to the Virginia area.
