COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's indoor track and field team had a performed well at the Collegville Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday. The squad racked up 50 team points to secure a 4th place finish out of 19 teams competing.
Leading the way was Jaylyn Lane as she topped the 26-person field in the long jump as she leaped a distance of 5.14m. Sticking with the jump events, Alizae Dollins also turned in a solid performance as her distance of 10.05m in the triple jump was good enough for fourth place.
At the track, Lane chipped in again as she placed second out of 56 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.17. Teammate Kwonsha Washington was not too far behind as her time of 27.59 earned her sixth overall. Prior to that, Washington secured second (out of 34) in the 400m race as she crossed the line in 1:03.79. Dollins also finished strong in the 400m as her time of 1:04.83 was good enough for fifth overall.
Washington, Lane and Dollins later teamed up with Terra Caple in the 4x400m where the Marlins took first place with a time of 4:18.32.
Women's indoor track and field will return to action again on Friday as the team competes in the two-day Captain's Invite hosted by Christopher Newport University.
