LOUISVILLE, Ky – Both Hanna Hull and Cassetty Howerin were both named to the 2018 Schutt Sports / National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Division III National Player of the Year List. Both 2017 All-Americans, Hull and Howerin have made the cut to 25 as both were named to the Top-50 preseason watch list.
Reigning DIII Player of the year, Hanna Hull, hasn't skipped a beat as she has dominated from the circle. The sophomore has hurled a Division III leading 229 strikeouts this season, accumulating a nation-best 31 victories (31-2). Over her 196.1 innings on the rubber, she has only allowed 86 hits ranking second in the country for hits allowed per seven innings (2.28). This season, she has had seven complete game one-hitters and turned in a perfect game against Salem State on February 20. Hull has been recognized a plethora of times this season as she has been the NFCA DIII Pitcher of the Week three times, the ODAC Pitcher of the Week five times, the ODAC Championship Most Valuable Player and the Marlin of the Week.
A two-time All-American, Howerin has continued her dominance at the plate in her final year. The senior currently holds a team-high batting average of .432, posting a conference-high 49 RBIs. Howerin has been a menace to strikeout, leading the squad in hits (54) and the conference in walks (38) while only striking out three times all season. This year has been record breaking for the Dover, Del. native as she broke the conference record for career walks and RBI and also surpassed the Virginia Wesleyan record for career home runs. At the ODAC Championship, Howerin collected All-Tournament Team honors as well.
After winning the ODAC Championship, the softball team's record currently sits at 45-2. The squad will now wait for the rest of Division III to finish up their regular seasons before learning where they will go for their regional matchup.
