Men's Tennis Earns Five All-ODAC Nods; Perry Earns COY Honors

FOREST, Va. - The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its 2019 Men's Tennis All-Conference honorees on Tuesday which included six from Virginia Wesleyan University. The Marlins netted three 1st team singles, one 2nd team singles and one 2nd team doubles.  In addition, Head Coach Marty Perry and assistant Tom Rishcoff were honored for their hard work this season by receiving ODAC Coach of the Year for men's tennis.

Senior Paul Gladstone (Port Orange, FL) earned first team honors at #1 singles.  The Marlin's only senior had a 14-13 overall record and went 8-3 in ODAC play.  Freshman Timothy Tep (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) also earned 1st team honors at #2 singles. Tep had an impressive 17-5 overall record while finishing 11-1 in ODAC play. Rounding out 1st team honors for the Marlins was junior Nick Gunther (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia).  Gunther was 10-11 in singles overall with an impressive 8-1 mark in conference play.

Earning 2nd team honors for the Marlins was sophomore Anthony Wilson (Lynchburg, VA).  Wilson finished the year with a 16-10 overall record while going 9-3 in the ODAC.  The Marlin's lone doubles accolade came at the #3 doubles position when Anthony Wilson and Timothy Tep were named to the 2nd team at #3 doubles. The duo finished the year with a 13-9 overall mark while going 9-2 in ODAC play.

Head coach Marty Perry earned his 2nd ODAC Men's Coach of the Year honor in 4 years at the helm of the tennis program at Virginia Wesleyan University; he also took home the award in 2016. His team finished the year with a 15-10 overall record while going 9-2 in conference play.  The men are currently ranked #20 in the Atlantic South region and ended their season with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Hampden-Sydney in the conference semifinal.
