LEXINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell, 4-1, to Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins move to 1-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Washington and Lee improves to 3-3 on the year (1-0 ODAC).

The opening half was a tight-knit battle with not a lot of offense to show for it. Late in the stanza, VWU sent in a throw in to Scott Signorelli in the box. The freshman made a nice move towards goal and was brought down on a foul, earning a penalty kick for the Marlins with just over a minute left in the first. Shaun Brooks lined up at the spot to take it, neatly slotting it to the keeper's right side.

In the second, the Generals opened up their offense. The home team tucked away three goals and played solid defense to help earn their first conference win of the year.

Griffin Potter played well in net with two of the General goals coming on on-on-one situations. The freshman finished with a season-high nine saves on the day.

Men's soccer returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the team hosts Bridgewater at the Trinder Center.
