Perrault's Hat Trick Keys Marlins to 4-1 Victory
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- First-year forward Ricky Perrault netted a hat trick Monday evening to carry the Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Shenandoah University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Perrault came into the contest with three goals on the season, but his first multi-goal game doubled his season total.
The Marlins struck first at 9:19 as Brian Le flicked the ball into the box from 35 yards out. Perrault got a head on it, sending it to the left of keeper Keegan Fairchild and into the back of the net.
Perrault struck again early in the second half when he dribbled around his defender at the 47:01 mark for the match's second tally.
The first-year finished his evening at 60:42 when he had the ball at the top of the box, moving towards the Virginia Wesleyan bench. He caught his defender off guard, ripping a shot off his right foot for the historic hat trick.
Cody White ruined the Marlins' bid for a shutout on a penalty kick score at 85:10.
Fairchild made five saves for Shenandoah (4-6-2/1-3-2 ODAC) while Connor Kirkham stopped three shots for Virginia Wesleyan.
Virginia Wesleyan led 14-11 in shots with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Virginia Wesleyan (5-3-2/2-1-2) travels to Randolph-Macon College (7-5/3-2) for a 4:30 p.m. ODAC start Wednesday afternoon.
