Balanced Scoring Effort Lifts VWC to 4-0 Victory over SVU

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team came out Tuesday night with determination and showed Southern Virginia University, "WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A MARLIN" with a 4-0 non-conference victory.

The Marlins came out with great teamwork, ball-handling, and offensive firepower, proving why they were selected third in the conference preseason poll.

The Marlins dominated the scoreboard 23-8 in shots while corner kicks were even at two.

VWC got on the board early as Ricky Perrault scored off a deflection just under eight minutes into the contest. Andrew Freeman followed that up five minutes later when Alex Suprise's throw in found its way to the box.

The Marlins didn't stop there, coming out strong in the second half to add two more goals to the scoreboard. One 15 yard out goal was scored by senior Thomas Morgan before Brandon Rogers finished the scoring with a rebound off a save.

Senior Connor Kirkham held the Knights from scoring with one save while freshman Jay Fox and got two saves in goal for the second half.

Kennan Carroll made six saves for Southern Virginia (0-1) before exiting in the second half.

The Marlins (1-0) take on their rival Christopher Newport University September 4th at CNU. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
