Tough Second Quarter Leads To Marlins First Loss of 2018

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season as it dropped a game against Berry College, 17-9, Saturday morning in the Scarborough Sports Complex. With the loss, both VWU (1-1) and Berry (2-2) moved to .500 on the early season.

After letting Berry get the first two, Joey Rayman and Cole Maguire netted two for the Marlins to even it back up. The Vikings would add one more before the first periods end though, to give them a slight lead. VWU faltered in the second period, allowing seven goals for the opposition while only gathering one for themselves.

Trailing 11-3 going into the second half, the two sides would trade four goals in the third and two in the second as the Marlins took their first defeat of 2018.

Matt Baldwin, Joey Rayman and Cole Maguire each recorded two goals on the day, with Baldwin dishing out two assists as well. Thomas Potter also had a solid outing as the defender scooped up a team-high five groundballs.

Goalie duties were split during the tilt with Chris McTague saving seven shots through the first 30 minutes and Cory Austin stopping eight through the second 30.

Men's lacrosse will be back in action at 11 a.m. tomorrow as the squad will play Neumann University in Savannah, Ga. as well.
