Men Finish Sixth at Shenandoah Invitational
WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University men's golf team finished tied for sixth as the Shenandoah Invitational came to a close Monday afternoon.
The Marlins shot a 305 on Monday, after posting a 302 on Sunday, to finish with a 607 (+39) while tying with host Shenandoah University.
Kevin Duffy paced the Marlins in the second round with a 73 (+2), giving him a two-day score of 153 (+11). Carter Morgan was the first Marlin to appear on the leaderboard with a two-day 145 (+3) after carding a six-over 77 on Monday. Morgan fell from his Sunday standing, but still garnered a sixth place finish among individuals.
Keith Cooper maintained a consistent approach over the two rounds, shooting a 76 (+5) on Monday to give him a two-day 149 (+7). His efforts garnered him a tie for 11th position.
Allen Smith of Hampden-Sydney College narrowed maintained his first-round lead, holding on to win by a stroke after carding a two-day 139 (-3). Teammate Parker Smith was second with a 140 (-2). The Smith duo paced the Tiger squad to a team championship as H-SC shot a 580 (+12), 18 shots ahead of second-place University of Mary Washington.
The Marlins travel to Ashland, Va. for the Ted Keller Invitational on October 9-10.
