Morgan Leads Marlins at Shenandoah Invite
WINCHESTER, Va. -- Sophomore Carter Morgan led the Virginia Wesleyan men's golf team in the opening round of the Shenandoah Invitational, currently sitting in second place.
Morgan was one of just two golfers on the afternoon to shoot under par at the Winchester Country Club. Morgan posted a first-round 68 (-3), a career-best round for the second-year golfer. Allen Smith of Hampden-Sydney College was the lone other golfer to shoot under par, carding a 65 (-6) to hold the lead after the first round.
Keith Cooper also posted a nice round, shooting a 73 (+2) to tie for fifth after the first 18 holes.
The Marlins are tied with Randolph-Macon College for third place after a first-round 302 (+18). Hampden-Sydney leads the pack after a 288 (+4), followed by the University of Mary Washington (299, +15).
Morgan will look to make a move for the individual title as the Marlins conclude competition on Monday.
