GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team sealed up another ODAC victory, taking down Guilford, 67-58, on the road. With the win, the Marlins improve to 15-8 overall and 9-5 in conference action. Guilford slides to 13-10 on the year (9-5 ODAC).
It was a second half effort that gave the Marlins the victory on Saturday. After trailing 39-30 going into the half, the visiting side needed a spark to regain their footing. This came by way of Percy Burt, who reached the charity stripe three minutes in and calmly sank two free throws. Over the next 13 minutes, the squad would go on a 21-3 run, highlighted by a couple key rebounds and two steals by Keijon Honore. This was all the squad needed as they held off any Quaker threat during the final minutes.
Lamont Steward had an excellent day, recording 19 points and 11 boards for his fifth double-double of the season. Burt aided the effort as he came away with nine points and five boards.
Men's basketball returns to the hardwood at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the team hosts Bridgewater in the home regular season finale.
