Price's OT Goal Gives Field Hockey the Victory on the Road

ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team defeated Randolph-Macon, 2-1, in overtime Tuesday evening on the road. With the win the Marlins improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets slide to 3-7 on the season (0-3 ODAC).

Tied 1-1, the teams headed to overtime with a conference victory at stake. The Marlins were able to capture it though courtesy of Emily Price. Julie Fassl got the play started as she took the ball down the endline and took a tough angle shot. The attempt was saved but Price was there to gather the rebound and slide it home, giving the Marlins victory just 2:27 into the extra period.

The Marlins also supplied the contest's first goal which came at the 7:45 mark of the first half. Fassl sent a ball in on frame fooled the opposing netminder, giving the Marlins the early lead. Randolph-Macon tied it up in the second with a lobbed shot that found its way into the cage.

Skye Swain had another solid outing between the pipes, stopping 10 Yellow Jacket shots.

Field hockey returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Ferrum at Birdsong Field.
