VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team fell, 2-0, to Roanoke Saturday afternoon on Birdsong Field. With the loss, the Marlins move to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Roanoke goes to 8-3 on the season (3-1 ODAC).
The two teams played a close game right out of the gates with both sides combing for six penalty corners through the first 20 mintues. The Maroons got on the board first though with a goal at the 22:19 mark. The 1-0 deficit would remain as the two teams broke for halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan came out hot to start the second half, garnering three penalty corners with one resulting in a nice shot by Hunter Majewski but nothing was to come of it. Roanoke doubled its lead in the 54th minute though and that was all that was needed.
Skye Swain finished the day with seven saves in goal.
Field hockey returns to action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday as the squad heads to Bridgewater for another ODAC tilt.
