Field Hockey Shuts Out Third Straight Foe on the Road

HARRISRONBURG, Va. -  Virginia Wesleyan (4-2, 1-0) defeated Eastern Mennonite (6-3, 0-1) by a final score of 3-0 in both teams' ODAC opener.

The Marlins got on the scoreboard early as Cori Jackson hammered home her first goal of the season on a one timer shot off the assist from Janine De Perio only 11:44 into the contest. VWU kept the pressure on the Royals throughout the first half, as EMU was only able to get four shots off against the Marlin defense.

Still in the first, Catalina Jones scored her fourth goal of the year off an Elizabeth Roberto assist on a 2 on 1 break away. The Marlins were not done scoring, as Elizabeth Roberto converted on a nifty shot that lofted over the Royal goalkeeper to put the Marlins ahead 3-0 going into halftime.

The 3-0 lead is all the Marlins would need to defeat the Royals. Skye Swain made 5 saves to preserve the shutout and victory, marking the third-striaght shutout win.

Virginia Wesleyan heads back on the road for their next contest on Oct. 2 at St. Mary's (Md.) for a 4p.m. start.
