Offense Rolls as Field Hockey Takes Down Hood

FREDERICK Md. – The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team cruised to a 15-0 victory over Hood College on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Marlins move to 1-1 on the early season while Hood drops to 0-1.

The wheels got turning quickly for the Marlins with goals from Julie Fassl and Catalina Jones in the first five minutes. Virginia Wesleyan would double up its lead before the halftime whistle courtesy of goals from Taylor Wilhelm and Elizabeth Roberto.

In the second, the team really began to feel itself as they tucked away 11 more goals to complete the commanding victory. Jones and Roberto each came away with a hat trick while Emily Price and Fassl registered a pair of goals. Rounding out the scoring with a goal a piece was Ryan Westpfahl, Hayden Thornbrugh, Emma Walsh, and Lexie Thomas.

Dishing out helpers were Thomas and Roberto, who each concluded the contest with two.

Although not seeing much action, Skye Swain earned her first victory of the season in goal. She was relieved at halftime though for Maura Bridges who finished out the tilt.

Field hockey will return to action at 1 p.m. next Sunday as the squad hosts Christopher Newport University for the Marlins' home opener.
