VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. The team is slated for a full 40 games, including 23 at Virginia Wesleyan's own Kenneth R. Perry Field and 21 against opponents that were nationally ranked during the 2019 season.
To open up the season, the Marlins will head to Georgia for a three games to played at Piedmont College. The team begins with a battle against Emory University on February 7th followed by a single game against Piedmont the next day. VWU rounds out the road trip with a contest against Birmingham Southern University on February 9th. All three opponents were ranked nationally last season including BSU who was tabbed the No. 2 team in the country at the conclusion of last season.
On February 14th, the Marlins host Union College for a three-game homestand, which consists of three games in three days. Its then off to Methodist University for a single game on February 19th.
It's a long home streak then for the Marlins as the next seven games will be played at Kenneth R. Perry Field. The squad welcomes to Ithaca to town on February 23rd for a doubleheader and then will square off against the Bombers again the next day. Salisbury then travels to the Beach for a single game on February 26th. Its then the opening of ODAC play as Washington and Lee stops by on February 29th for a doubleheader. Concluding the home stance is the tail end of the home-and-home with Methodist, to be played on March 4th.
Its back on the road next for the Marlins but just for a bit as the team heads to Bridegwater for a conference doubleheader on March 7th. They then come back to host Rutgers-Camden for a single nine inning contest on March 8th.
Next on the slate it's a home-and-home with North Carolina Wesleyan College who which will start with one game at home on March 10th and finish on March 12th on the road. Its then a home ODAC doubleheader against Shenandoah on March 13th and 14th.
A pair of weekday games are next in store for the Marlins as the team will first travel to the University of Mary Washington on March 17th followed by a home tilt against Randolph-Macon the next day. That weekend, Virginia Wesleyan makes the long trek across the state for a March 21st doubleheader against Emory & Henry. On March 24th, the squad will then travel to Lynchburg for a single game.
To conclude the month of March, the team has a trio of home games. On March 25th, the team welcomes Mary Washington to the campus and three days later host Ferrum for a doubleheader.
April begins on the 1st as the team travels to Hampden-Sydney for a single game and will stay on the road as they go to Roanoke for a doubleheader three days later. On the seventh 7th, the team hosts Lynchburg for a single ODAC battle. The team then heads to cross-bay rival Christopher Newport University for a single game on April 8th. A week later, the team takes a trip to Randolph-Macon for another tilt against the Yellow Jackets.
The final five games of the regular season will all be crucial ODAC contests starting with a home doubleheader against Guilford on April 18th. Hampden-Sydney then comes to town for the regular season home finale on April 21st. The Marlins then finish out the regular season with a doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite on April 25th.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship will take place the following week with opening games on May 1st.
