Baseball Holds Ninth Best Strength of Schedule in D3

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The NCAA Division III postseason selection committee announced the strength of schedule rankings recently and the Virginia Wesleyan baseball team is ninth in the nation, and the top team in the South Region.

The Marlins hold an overall .572 strength of schedule in a regular season that saw the squad go 20-18. The 20 wins are the most for the Marlins since the 2010 season. This is also the third-straight year the Marlins have advanced to the ODAC Tournament, making the field in all three of Coach Chris Francis' years at the helm. Prior to that, the Marlins have finished outside the ODAC tournament field each year since 2010.

The committee determines strength of schedule using opponents' winning percentage and opponents' opponents' winning percentage. A team's strength of schedule (SOS) is two-thirds opponents' winning percentage (OWP) and one-third opponents' opponents' winning percentage (OOWP).

Only four of the teams ranked higher than the Marlins in SOS have a winning record on the season.

Below are the top ten teams based on data compiled by PrestoSports.
