Another Busy Week ahead for Baseball
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College baseball team (10-11/3-4) will endure another long week as the Marlins host three games at home, traveling for one more.
The Marlins start with a contest on Tuesday at Greensboro College at 3 p.m. The game will be held at First National Bank Field, the home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, Class-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
The Pride (19-10) are coming off a split at home against Averett University. Zach Neumeister and Derek Jaar are the offensive leaders for the Pride. Jaar boasts a .406 batting average and a .563 slugging percentage. Neumeister leads the Pride in ten categories, including RBI and home runs.
The Marlins defeated Greensboro College 10-3 at home this past Tuesday. Jay Crusemire allowed two earned runs in four innings while striking out five in that contest. Andrew Lowe (1-0) threw three one-hit innings out of the bullpen to earn the win.
In another non-conference matchup, the Marlins will return home on Wednesday to face Methodist University with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The Monarchs (14-14) are coming off a series with North Carolina Wesleyan where MU lost two-of-three games. Methodist is currently 3-4 on the road in limited road contests.
The Monarchs have a .284 team batting average with an impressive .965 fielding percentage as a squad. Carter Matthias is one to look out for offensively. Matthias hold a .349 batting average and leads the Monarchs in doubles, triples, runs scored, and slugging percentage.
The Marlins continue ODAC play at home Saturday in a doubleheader against Bridgewater College. The Eagles (10-12/3-4) split with No. 9 Randolph Macon College over the weekend in an impressive conference showing.
The Eagles have six players in the lineup with batting averages over .300, led by freshman Luke Paczewski and his .417 mark. The Marlins are likely to face Tristan Daywalt (1-5, 4.03 ERA) and Jordan Showalter (2-1, 2.88 ERA) in Saturday's contests.
