The 2017-18 campaign marks Mat Littleton’s 14th season as the head coach of the men’s cross country and track and field programs at Virginia Wesleyan College

Littleton has produced multiple All-ODAC and All-Region competitors, earning Co-ODAC Coach of the Year honors for the 2008 cross country season.

Littleton earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in English with a minor in psychology from North Central College in 2001. He competed in cross country for North Central, which has placed in the NCAA Division III national championship meet for 36 consecutive years, winning 13 national titles, and has won 36 consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships. Littleton also competed in outdoor track and field for NCC, which has won 10 NCAA Championships in track and field.

He was coached by Al Carius, who was featured in Sports Illustrated as the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coach of the Century. As an athlete, Littleton has gone on to compete in the Boston Marathon in 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Littleton earned his Masters of Science degree in educational leadership from Quincy University.
