VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team took down Lynchburg in straight sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) Wednesday evening at the Jane P. Batten Student Center. With the loss, the Marlins improve to 13-7 overall while moving to 7-2 in conference play. Lynchburg slides to 9-13 on the year (3-5 ODAC).
The Marlin offense was on point the entire match, boasting an attack percentage of .292 on the evening. The ball was spread pretty evenly among the hitters with Amber Matalus registering a team-high 13 kills. Also pitching in though were Kristina Scott and Doneisha Hall who came away with nine and eight, respectively.
In the back row, Alyssa Taylor and Adeline Howell both displayed solid performances. Taylor, wearing the libero jersey, led the team with 14 while Howell picked up 11. Sticking on the defensive end, Sydney Collins paced the team with five block assists.
Volleyball returns to action on Saturday with a double header in Lexington, Va. The Marlins will take on Hollins at 1 p.m. before squaring off with Washington and Lee afterwards.
