ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team suffered its first conference loss as the team fell, 3-1 (26-24, 25-13, 23-25, 25-13). With the result, the Marlins slide to 9-6 on the season and 4-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. RM-C holds the same overall record with a conference record of 5-1.
The first set was extremely tight with it coming down to the wire. A kill by Doneisha Hall denied the Yellow Jackets one set point but Macon won it on its second try. The Marlins faltered a bit in set number two but in the third, the team got back on track winning 25-23. The comeback would fall short though as Randolph-Macon handed the Marlins their first ODAC defeat.
Kristina Scott led the team offensively, picking up nine kills on the evening. The senior picked up three block assists as well. Also chipping was Elizabeth Britton and Amber Matalus with eight kills.
Meghan Wood picked a team-high 22 assists to go along with a career-high 16 digs.
Volleyball will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. on Friday as the team hosts Randolph on Senior Day.
