VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team continued its ODAC winning streak with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-20 defeat of Hollins University that just over an hour.

The Marlins hit a very impressive .500 in the first set, registered 15 kills against just one error in 28 attempts. VWU jumped out to a 14-5 lead in that initial set on kills from five different players. VWU continued to pull away from Hollins, scoring the final four points of the set on three kills and a service ace.

Virginia Wesleyan led just 13-9 in the second set as Coach Hoover began working in some new players into the rotation. The Marlins reeled of a 7-0 run to assume the commanding lead again at 20-9. Maddie Starr started the run with a service ace, and continued to serve point for point as Lauren Topper and Ashley Bologna registered kills for the hosts.

Hollins made a strong attempt at a comeback in the third set as the two squads were tied at 13 following a kill by Brie Faircloth for the visitors. Trailing 19-18, the Marlins pieced together the final run of the match to secure the victory. A block by Amber Matalus and Natalie Hawksworth evened the score while starting a 5-0 run. Matalus then stepped to the service line and connected on an ace for the lead. Three errors extended the VWU edge to 23-19 while putting the match out of reach for Hollins.
