Women's Tennis Unable to Get By Roanoke at Home

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University Women's Tennis team competed in an ODAC home contest against the Roanoke Maroons. Despite a hard fought effort, the Marlins fell 7-2.

In doubles action, Audrey Bally and Katie Staman were bested 8-7(5) by Roanoke's Jessica Kennedy and Madeline Herring at number 1 doubles. Lyric Hinton and Christine Zalameda were defeated 8-2 at number 2 doubles while Aubree Johnson and Taylor Witherspoon earned an 8-1 victory at number 3 doubles. The Marlins were down 2-1 going into singles play. 

While the Marlins fought hard on all courts, the Maroons took 5 of 6 singles matches. Lyric Hinton, Audrey Bally, Katie Staman, and Taylor Witherspoon were all defeated in straight sets at numbers 5, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. Christine Zalameda fell 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 at number 1 singles while Tatum O'Brien earned a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win at number 6 singles.

The Marlins will be back in action this coming Friday to take on the Lynchburg Hornets. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
