GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swim team closed out the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships on a strong note, setting pletny of personal records as well as school records. As a team, the Marlins took home 10th place, accumulating 86 total points.
Individually, the women had a phenomenal day, practically resetting the record books. Allie Ghazaleh got things going as she posted a 2:57.93 in the 200-yard backstroke, which was best in school history. Amanda Waller also took a top spot in the VWU record books as she PR'd in the 200-yd breaststroke with a time of 3:00.46. Taylor Morich controlled the distance events, clocking in at 24:04.88 to set a new school high in the 1650-yd.
In the 100-yd freestyle, Diana Jones (1:12.91), Miah Kurtz (1:12.61), Morgan Lucas (1:09.53), Ashley Whipple (1:07.75) and Hayley Heath (1:03.42) all set personal bests on the day. Heath's time also eclipsed the current school record.
Relays also went well for the Marlins as Waller, Heath, Lucas and Whipple all teamed up in the 400-yd freestyle relay to record a time of 4:29.90 in the preliminary round, a new VWU record.
