Women's Swimming Downed By Ferrum On Senior Day

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swim team fell, 117-84, to Ferrum College in the final home meet of the season Saturday afternoon.

Before the races began, the team was able to honor its three upper classmen in Allie Ghazaleh, Morgan Lucas and Ashley Whipple, for Senior Day.

Amanda Waller had a good outing for the Marlins, setting two different school records on the day. The sophomore clocked a 1:22.24 in the 100-yard breast before putting up a 3:01.77 in the 200-yard breast event. Both records were previously held by her.

Also turning out solid individual performances were Whipple, who nabbed a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (30.70) and Hayley Heath, who's time of 1:05.48 also earned a top finish.

On the relay side of things, Ghazaleh, Waller, Heath and Taylor Morich teamed up to clinch a place atop the podium in the 200-yard medley, clocking in at 2:20.71. The time was less than a second off the current VWU record.

Women's swimming will return to action in two weeks as the squad heads to Greenboro, N.C. for the ODAC Championships.
