BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team has been ranked No. 24 in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) to start out the 2018 season.
The Marlins, who finished last year with the same ranking, concluded their 2017 with a record of 15-7-1 winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) regular season title and earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. There, the squad downed a gritty Tufts University team in the opening round before falling to eventual final-four finalist The College of New Jersey.
This season, the women's soccer team has one of the most difficult slates in the nation as it squares off against four opponents who were ranked in this opening poll (#6 Johns Hopkins, #9 UW-La Crosse, #16 Lynchburg and #17 Christopher Newport).
To start the 2018 season, VWU will host the College of St. Benedict at the Trinder Center on Aug. 31. Kick off for that contest will be at 5 p.m.
