Davidson Leads Marlins to 3-2 Victory

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore Alex Davidson registered a hat trick in the second half, accounting for all three Virginia Wesleyan goals as the women's soccer team defeated No. 14 Lynchburg College 3-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday.

The defenses controlled the first half as only five combined shots were taken prior to intermission.

Lynchburg posted the first score of the game, coming in the 53rd minute as Georgie Duggan finished a rebound off the post for a 1-0 lead. The Hornets capitalized again just 3:40 later when Dana Seavey found Caitlin Mertens to extend the margin.

The offensive units were on display again just two minutes later when Zoe Traficante found Davidson for a goal on a direct kick from 20 yards out to make it 2-1 at 59:37.

Davidson evened the score just one minute later, putting all the pressure back on the Hornets while swinging momentum to the Marlins.

The Marlins scored the decisive score at 85:20, with less than five minutes remaining, as Davidson found the back of the net for her first hat trick as a Marlin.

Lynchburg led in shots, 11-7, and corner kicks, 4-2. Delia LoSapio made two saves for Lynchburg (6-1/0-1) while Alicia Zamora made a pair of saves for VWU.

Virginia Wesleyan (5-3-1/1-0) travels to Roanoke College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. ODAC start.
