0-0, double OT tie between Marlins and Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. -- History did repeat itself in the women's soccer series between Salisbury University and Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday.

Oft-physical competition between the Sea Gulls and Marlins was the norm once again as the teams battled to a scoreless, double overtime tie on the Salisbury campus. It was the sixth overtime finish in the series and the fourth in the last six years.  While VWC is now 4-1-2, Salisbury is 3-3-1.  Virginia Wesleyan continues to lead the series, 8-5-4.

Salisbury owned the edge offensively, out-shooting Virginia Wesleyan 18-13 overall, including 10-3 in the second half and 5-1 in the second overtime period.  Marlins rookie Megan Gerhart (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn)was key in frustrating the Gulls' attack as she recorded eight saves. She posted four of her stops in the second half and three in the second OT.

SU goalie Michele Conrad (Smithtown, N.Y./East) finished with five saves overall.

Seven Marlins recorded shots in the contest, led by Rebecca Staylor (Virginia Beach/Floyd E. Kellam) with four and Kerry Knauss (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) with three.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina.
