Marlins to Host Senior Day on Wednesday
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team will host Sweet Briar College Wednesday April 19th at 4:30 p.m. for Senior Day. Senior Jacquelyn Gabaldon will be recognized in a pregame ceremony.
Sweet Briar is 0-5 on the year. The Vixens' last game was a 20-5 loss against Randolph College. Sweet Briar scored first in the match as Elizabeth Phaup converted a free position shot in the first 15 seconds of the game. Phaup scored twice in the game while teammates Kierstan Mullins, Victoria Lawson, and Jessica Lusby each posted a goal of their own. Phaup leads the team in goals this year with four while also recording an assist.
The Marlins will enter the matchup fresh off a 20-6 conference win against Randolph. Both the offense and defense impressed Friday night as VWC saw goals from eight different players while only allowing 10 shots on net. Becca Winslow led all scores over the weekend tying a career high with five goals. Marie Lerch, Megan Schallock, and Avery Frangelli each posted a hat trick against Randolph as freshman Ally Godau recorded the first two goals of her career to help push the Marlins past the WildCats.
Wednesday's match will also honor Gabaldon for her Senior Day. Gabaldon, an international studies and art double major from Woodbridge, Virginia, has been apart of the Marlin lacrosse program for the past four year. Over the course of her career, Gabaldon has competed in 38 games, making 25 starts, while compiling nine goals and three assists. Her role as the lone senior has provided leadership and guidance for the younger members of the team.
