VIRGINIA BEACH -- Eleven Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse players scored at least one goal each on Saturday as the Marlins posted a 19-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Hollins University on Foster Field at the Trinder Center.
Rookie Megan Schallock (Waukesha, Wis./Mukwonago) led the goal-scoring production with four, increasing her season total to a league-leading 43, marking her as the second highest rookie scorer in VWC program history. Laura Wallace set the Marlin record with 55 goals during her first year in 2003.
Junior Tiana Garland (Norfolk/Maury) came through for three goals and senior Brooke Cabeceiras (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) and twins Ashley and Becca Winslow (Nokesville/Brentsville) scored a pair of goals each.
Virginia Wesleyan (7-5, 3-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of the game, led by Schallock with a trio of goals and Carey with two assists.
Jessie Deese (Cary, N.C./Apex) scored for Hollins (0-9, 0-6) to end the Marlin run, but only temporarily. Becca Winslow scored on an unassisted goal to give VWC a 7-1 lead and ignite a run of eight straight goals for the Marlins, who took a 14-1 lead into the halftime break.
Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Tuesday, April 7, in ODAC competition at Bridgewater College beginning at 7 p.m.
