Track and Field Finishes Competition at CNU
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan men and women track and field teams completed competition at Christopher Newport University on Saturday. It was a hot day on the track and the Marlins stood up to the competition.
The men had a great day on the track. The 4x100m relay team got things started by finishing in second place with a time of 42.48. The relay team consisted of Curtis Dudley, Armon Ardila, Trey White and Keyontae Norfleet.
In the 100m dash, Dudley finished second with a new personal record time of 11.04, followed by Norfleet in sixth (11.10) and Ardila in eighth (11.48). Norfleet came back to run the 200m dash, where he ran the second-fastest time in the ODAC this year with a time of 21.93 and also the second-fastest time in school history. Michael Class came in sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase, running a time of 10:30.32. Antonio Boone finished in third in the 400m hurdles.
Emily Latimer followed that by establishing a new school record in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:47.59. She broke the old school record by 15 seconds. Marissa Coombs finished in fourth in the 1,500m run, running a time of 4:35.15. In the 400m dash, Jayla Cross ran a time of 1:00.96 to gain eighth place and also putting her eighth in the ODAC this season. In the field events, Rolonda Taylor had a great day in the long and triple jump finishing in fifth place in both events.
As the Marlins wrap up their regular season, they transition their focus to ODAC championships which take place on Friday and Saturday. The teams will load the bus and travel to Lexington, Virginia to compete at Washington & Lee University.
