LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Hanna Hull of the Virginia Wesleyan University softball team has been named one of 50 players in all of Division III to the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Association (NFCA) National Player of the Year watch. This is coming on the heels of her winning the National Player of the Year award in both 2017 and 2018.
One of the program's most prolific pitchers, Hull's 2018 campaign was one to be remembered. The Chersterfield, Va native topped the nation in wins last season, tying a Division III record with 40. That gave her 72 career victories which broke the Old Dominion Athletic Conference record for career wins.
She also led the country in strikeouts, punching out 376 opposing batters. She got out to a hot start as she tied her career-high strikeouts with 17 against Meredith and a week later, tossed 14 in Perfect Game against Salem.
Success has come as no surprise to the now-junior. She has been named a First Team All-American twice, First Team All-Region twice and the ODAC Pitcher of the Year twice. She also played a large role the team's back-to-back National Championship runs in 2017-18.
Softball will kick off its season at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team heads to Meredith College for a doubleheader.
