Lone Run Lifts Marlins to 1-0 Victory

SALEM, Va. -- No.1 Virginia Wesleyan College advanced to the ODAC Semifinals with a 1-0 victory over No. 4 seeded Emory & Henry College. The Marlins improve to 41-1 on the year, which ties a program record for most wins in a single season, while the Wasps fall to 30-12.

Hanna Hull (23-1) earned her second win on the day throwing a complete game, allowing one hit, walking two, and striking out nine.

The Marlins scored the lone run of the ballgame in the first inning when Cassetty Howerin singled to right-center field, allowing speedy Kiersten Richardson to cross home plate.

Blake Henderson and Madison Glaubke both went 2-for-3 for the Marlins. Richardson also stole three bases.

Emory & Henry's Tiffany Cole (12-5) did her best to silent the Marlins in her six inning effort, allowing a lone run on seven hits.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. The Marlins will face the second-seeded Randolph Macon College, who walked off in the bottom of the seventh against No. 6 Roanoke to secure their spot in the semis. The Marlins swept the regular season meeting against R-MC by scores of 4-0 and 4-1.
