Marlins top Roanoke 7-2 on the Road

Salem, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team earned its 3rd straight win by taking 7 out of 9 matches against the Maroons on Saturday in Salem.


Junior Paul Gladstone(Port Orange,FL) and freshman Michael Portera(Raleigh, NC) got the ball rolling with an 8-4 win at # 2 doubles to give the Marlins their first point. Freshman Anthony Wilson (Lynchburg, VA) also got a win for the Marlins at #5 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1.


To clinch the match, Sophomore Nick Gunther (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia) and Freshman Mitchell Perry (Johns Creek, GA) got the job done at #1 doubles in an 8-5 victory.   Taking singles points for the Marlins were sophomore Andreas Combos with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at #2 singles and Nick Gunther with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #4 singles.


The Marlins (9-6) will be back in action against Emory and Henry on Sunday. The match will take place at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club in Tennessee at 9 AM.
