VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team has released its slate for the upcoming 2018 season. The team will compete in 17 games, eight of which to be played on the Marlins' own Trinder Field.
To kick off the season, Virginia Wesleyan will take part in the Christopher Newport Tournament with the first game coming against Pfeiffer University on Aug. 31 in Newport News, Va. Two days later, the team will take on Greensboro College on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan University.
After that tournament, the team will take on the University of Mary Washington on Sept. 5 before heading to Maryland for the St. Mary's College Tournament. There the squad goes to battle with host St. Mary's first before taking on Salisbury University. Those games will fall on Sept. 8th and 9th.
On Sept. 15, the Marlins will host Hood College for their official home opener. The home stint doesn't last long though as the squad's next two games are on the road. VWU opens up its ODAC schedule with a tilt at Hampden-Sydney on Set. 19 before heading to Lexington Va. for a game against nationally-ranked Washington and Lee on Set. 22.
Three of the Marlins next four games will be back in Virginia Beach, beginning with a contest against Bridgewater on Sept. 26. An away match against Randolph on Sept. 29 is next on the slate and then the team will be back home for a non-conference bout with the Captains of Chris. Newport four days later.
On Saturday, Oct. 6 the Marlins will host the ODAC's newest member in Ferrum. This game will also by Virginia Wesleyan University's homecoming and alumni weekend.
The next three games will be a pair of away tilts sandwiching a home tilt with Roanoke. On Oct. 10 the team will be at Eastern Mennonite but will return home three days later for a battle with the Maroons. The Marlins then hit the road for one last time in the regular season as they take on the 21st-ranked Hornets of Lynchburg on Oct. 17.
Virginia Wesleyan will close out its regular season with a pair of home games, the penultimate coming against Shenandoah and the finale against Randolph-Macon. The first of these contests will commence on Oct. 20 with the other coming on Oct. 24.
