Perrault Provides Insurance in 3-0 Win
READING, Pa. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half, including two in the final 10 minutes, to defeat Penn State-Berks 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Marlins possessed the ball the majority of the first half, outshooting Penn State-Berks 10-2 before intermission while forcing Gerardo Sosa to make five saves.
Virginia Wesleyan broke through early in the second half against the Nittany Lion defense, capitalizing for a goal just over a minute into the second half. Ryan Kraus crossed the ball in front of the keeper to Tyriq Wellman for his second goal of the season.
The Marlin defense made the 1-0 margin last until Perrault could add two insurance goals late to solidify the victory. Nick Peterson turned away two Penn State-Berks attempt to even the score prior to Perrault's heroics.
Perrault scored his first goal of the game in the 80th minute on a penalty kick after a yellow card was assessed. He added another goal with under a minute remaining in the match when Devin Wallace crossed a ball in front of the keeper for Perrault's fourth goal of the season.
The Marlins outshot Penn State-Berks 16-9 while corner kicks were even at four.
Sosa finished with seven saves for Penn State-Berks (2-4) while Peterson made four saves for his second shutout in as many starts.
Virginia Wesleyan (4-1) travels to Albright College (1-3-1) on Sunday for a 2 p.m. non-conference start.
