First team All-Virginia honors for Pappas, Currier

First team All-Virginia honors for Pappas, Currier

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- An award-filled post-season for Virginia Wesleyan College lacrosse standouts Nick Pappas and Josh Currier has continued.

Both Marlin attackmen have received first team All-Virginia status from the Virginia Sports Information Directors.  Pappas and Currier were part of an 11-man first team group that included just three honorees at the attack position.  The All-Virginia honor is the second in the row for both VWC players and the second first-team award for Pappas.

Pappas (Edgewater, Md./South River), who earlier this year was selected to play for the South team in the prestigious North-South All-Star Game sponsored by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and Laxworld, finished the 2014 season as VWC's leading goal producer with 55, the fourth highest single-season total in program history.

A May graduate, Pappas also recorded 30 assists en route to 85 total points, both the second highest totals on the team in 2014. He scored a season-high six goals twice during the season and recorded at least one goal and one assist in 13 games during the season. A two-time All-American, Pappas closed his career ranked No. 4 in points at VWC and No. 6 in assists.

Currier (Peterborough, Ontario/Holy Cross-Hill Academy), also a two-time All-American, ranked first for the Marlins in points with a program record 100.  His scoring total marked him not only as the first VWC player to hit the 100-point plateau, but also the first in the long history of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).  He scored 54 goals, the fifth highest single-season total in Marlin history, and set a VWC record with 46 assists, four shy of tying the ODAC single-season record.

Currier will enter his junior season at VWC with 89 goals, 85 assists, and 174 points ... the latter ranking him third among the College's all-time leading scorers in men's lacrosse.
