Currier is Rookie of the Year, Pappas first team All-Virginia

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Two of the most prolific scorers in Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse history have earned All-Virginia honors, determined by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

Rising senior Nick Pappas (Edgewater, Md./South River) has been named to the 11-man first team and rising sophomore Josh Currier (Peterborough, Ontario/Holy Cross-Hill Academy) has been named to the second team. Only 23 players from throughout Virginia were selected to the all-state team.

In addition to his second team accolade, Currier also recorded history for the VWC program by becoming the first Marlin to be named the Virginia Rookie of the Year.

Pappas and Currier finished the season as VWC's top two scorers.  Pappas led the team with 48 goals, the fifth highest single-season total in Marlin history, while Currier tallied 35 goals.  Pappas added 20 assists and Currier led that area with 39.

Currier, who scored a season-high four goals three times during the season, emerged as VWC's overall scoring leader with 74 points, a VWC single-season record, topping the former mark of 70 set by Tom McGurty in 1995.  Pappas, who scored a career-high seven goals against Guilford, was close behind with 68 points, the fourth highest total in VWC history.

Currier and Pappas were both ranked among the leaders in the tough Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Pappas led league in goals per game (3.0), ranked ninth in assists per game (1.25), and third in points per game (4.25).  He also ranked 22nd nationally in goals per game and 31st in points per game

Currier led the league in assists per game (2.38) and points per game (4.56), and ranked sixth in goals per game (2.19). He also ranked 16th nationally in points per game and 19th in assists per game.

Pappas and Currier were both named honorable mention All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association in May.  Both student-athletes were also selected as ODAC first-team honorees and Currier was named the league's Rookie of the Year, another first for the VWC program.
