Marlins Race Past Roanoke in ODAC Battle

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's basketball team led by as many as 31 points Saturday afternoon, easily defeating Roanoke College 83-56 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

The Marlins led just 22-17 with 10:14 to play in the first half after John Fitchett converted a jumper for Roanoke. That is the closest the Maroons would get in the contest as the Marlins ran off a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to go up 34-17. Khory Moore posted seven of the points in the run while Justin Watson added the other five.

The Marlins extended that lead to 49-32 at halftime, and held a 54-40 lead just over three minutes into the final half.

Virginia Wesleyan utilized another run, 11-0, over the next five minutes to go up 65-40. Moore posted five points in that spurt.

The Marlins outshot the Maroons 42.6% to 26.2% on Saturday and did a good job crashing the boards, holding a 45-38 rebounding margin over the guests.

C.J. Miles led Roanoke (11-9/6-6) with 20 points while Fitchett posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. John Caldwell finished with 13 points.

Moore paced the Marlins with 24 points, playing just 27 minutes of action on Saturday. Corey White, Jr. had a solid performance off the bench with 12 points, as did Keijon Honore with nine points. Tim Jones finished with eight points and eight assists while Watson added eight points and eight rebounds.

Moore registered a steal to tie the all-time school record set by Thomas Sumpter '07 at 182.

Virginia Wesleyan (15-6/8-4) travels to Hampden-Sydney College (9-12/5-7) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ODAC start.
