Field Hockey Takes Defeat to W&L on the Road

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team fell, 7-2, to Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins slide to 6-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. The Generals go to 6-8 on the year (4-2 ODAC).

After Washington and Lee opened with an early goal, the Marlins were able to settle in, using solid defense to thwart off all of the opposition's chances. In the waning moments of the first stanza though, W&L scored three quick ones to put the Marlins down 4-0.

In the second half, VWU found itself down 7-0 before Ashley Parker cut into the lead, finishing an Emily Price pass in the 64:45 mark. Roughly four minutes later, the Marlins scored again, this time Price putting one in from Elizabeth Roberto. The comeback was too little too late though as the Marlins fell 7-2.

Skye Swain played the whole 70 minutes in the cage for VWU, collecting 14 saves on the day.

Field hockey returns to action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday as the team welcomes Lynchburg to town.
