First Inning Woes Give Marlin Baseball Struggles in Loss

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team suffered a, 17-0, loss to Christopher Newport University on the road Wednesday afternoon. With the result, the Marlins go to 3-2 on the season while the Captains move to 5-2.

It was a difficult first inning for the Marlins as the home side put up 11 runs in the bottom of the frame. The squad had trouble regaining its footing after that, allowing six more through the rest of the game. Isaac Guzman attempted to make some noise in the third, doubling with only one out, but that's all the team could muster.

Zack Lubbick took the loss on the mound for VWU, bringing his record to 0-1 on the season.

Baseball will resume action at 12 p.m. on Friday as its hosts the College at Brockport at Kenneth R. Perry Field.
