Marlins Kick off NCAA D3 Week

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College athletic department has announced plans for NCAA Division III Week.

During the week, every Division III school and conference is encouraged to conduct outreach activities that fall into one of three categories: academic accomplishment, athletic experience, and/or leadership/community service/campus involvement.

Monday will feature a dodgeball tournament that is hosted by SAAC, the student-athlete advisory committee. It will run from 6-9 p.m. in the Convocation Center.

Tuesday will recognize the importance of academics in the Division III experience as the Marlins host Faculty Appreciation Day. All student-athletes are encouraged to thank their faculty members for all they do in a unique way.

Wednesday is Social Media Day and all student-athletes and fans are encouraged to get involved. Take to social media and use the hashtags #ODACD3Week and #D3Week. The athletic department will be looking for those tweets and will repost some of our favorites.

Thursday is Rivalry Day as the first home athletic event of the week takes place. The athletic department will take a staff picture at 11 a.m. The day will continue with baseball hosting Christopher Newport University at 3 p.m. for a non-conference game.

Friday is Community Service Day for the Marlins as VWC recognizes another important trait of the Division III experience. Student-athletes will head to the beach for a cleanup with some going from 9-11 a.m. while the rest go from 4-6 p.m.

D3 Week wraps up on Saturday with Marlin Game Day. Student-athletes and fans are encouraged to come out and support their fellow Marlins with a busy day scheduled. Women's lacrosse will face Guilford College at 11 a.m., followed by men's lacrosse against Shenandoah at 1 p.m. Baseball will host Roanoke College for a doubleheader starting at noon. Softball will host its annual Strike Out Cancer event at 1 p.m. against Roanoke College.
