VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Jaylyn Lane of the Virginia Wesleyan University women's track and field team has been named the Marlin of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 9, 2018. Lane aready earned some recognition as she was tabbed the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Athlete of teh Week as well.
Lane opened her collegiate career with a bang at the CNU Holiday Open. The freshman from Portsmouth, Va. competed in the long jump and triple jump. Her long jump distance of 5.24m was only .09m away from the school record. In the triple jump, she finished with a mark of 11.02m. Both distances were good enough to notch a 2nd place finish in the meet in while also setting the leading mark in the ODAC in both events. Her long jump places her 34th in the country and her triple jump places her at 17th as well.
She also competed in the 200m finishing 7th out of 32 with a time of 26.8 which sits her at 2nd in the conference as well as 48th in the country.
Lane and the rest of teh women's track and field team will look to continue their momentum in the new year as they travel to Ursinus College for the Collegeville Classic on Jan. 19.
